The Institute for Advanced Biometrics and Social Systems Studies (IABS3)

IABS3 was established under Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) in cooperation with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). These two institutions have decided to conclude the foundation-building efforts of the Institute and to transition pursuit of initiatives in biometrics and social systems studies to existing structures within their well-established organizations. This integration will provide a framework for the completion of current projects as well as the initiation of new projects involving collaboration of institutional partners, participating researchers, and various other stakeholders.

For information about research capabilities in the biometrics and social systems areas within the ORAU university consortium, please contact Cathy Fore, Director of Collaborative Initiatives in ORAU’s University Partnerships Office (, 865-241-8158).

For information about research capabilities in the biometrics and social systems areas within ORNL, please contact Blair Ross, Senior Program Manager in ORNL’s National Security Directorate (, 865-576-1034).

The report on the Institute’s research project, Providing Access to Resilience-Enhancing Technologies for Disadvantaged Communities and Vulnerable Populations (PARET), is available by accessing the Web site for the Community and Regional Resilience Institute (CARRI), the sponsor of the research effort. It is also available for download from the University Partnerships Office at ORAU.
